Community Vision

On May 24, 2004 the Shaw community told us their vision for the 7th and 9th Street focus area of Shaw Main Streets included:

a thriving, local, sustainable business community; (ideas behind this issue)
a healthy family environment; (ideas behind this issue)
crime-free neighborhoods; (ideas behind this issue)
visually appealing streetscapes along the 7th and 9th Street corridors with 0% vacancy and 100% affordability; (ideas behind this issue)
effective, user-friendly transportation systems; (ideas behind this issue)
a mix of green space; (ideas behind this issue) and
revitalization efforts that honor and preserve Shaw’s history (ideas behind this issue).

The Shaw Community also identified the greatest assets they have to build upon and the greatest challenges the community faces to successful commercial revitalization.
