DID YOU KNOW?
Shiloh Baptist church moved to Shaw in 1924 and began serving as a major religious and community service center. In the 1930’s and 40’s in segregated Washington there was little opportunity for family entertainment. To fill this void the church offered free movies on Saturdays. . Each evening’s entertainment ended with the singing of “Now the Day is Over”.

Events

Shaw Main Streets periodically conducts public events that serve as community outreach mechanisms and fund-raisers for the organization to sustain its programming toward the revitalization of the commercial corridors. These public events serve to promote the image and vision for commercial revitalization along the Shaw 7th and 9th Street corridors. Promotion through such events as street festivals, parades, retail events, celebrations, cultural highlight activities, and shopping extravaganzas are some of the ways that Shaw Main Streets encourages customer traffic to supported enhanced economic revitalization.
